i saw a shooting star. About an hour ago, on my way home from helping daecabhir sort our book collection, i was preparing to turn into the gas company parking lot to drop off the gas bill night drop. i just happened to look up and see what looked like a stray firework flashing across the sky, except it was arcing down rather than up, and there was no noise (i had my car window open). It lasted about a second, maybe a second and a half.
i looked online for images and this is the closest thing to what i saw (after i massaged it in Photoshop, that is):

Huge it was, just like a firework. And yet, it was silent. The moon will be officially full in about three hours. i think i found a bit of faerie tonight.
Anyone else seen something similar? |

Wow. That's cool, and lucky.
Very lucky. Given the date (late July 5), i wondered if maybe it was just a firework, but, it was alone and silent. Just didn't seem like a firework. Just in the right place at the right time, glad i didn't pay the bill earlier, LOL.
Oh, lovely! I've never seen a shooting star myself.
i *think* i've seen them during the seasonal meteor showers, but they're tiny tiny far away things. Like a star that does a little dip, or a quick move and it's gone. So subtle i wonder if i saw it at all.
Hmm maybe i'll make an icon out of that photo :-)
Thanks for that link! i reported my sighting to their site today :-)
For those of you interested, here's a link to the AMS Fireball Sightings Log page. Many many people witnessed this, some heard the sonic boom (which i did not). Pretty cool! | |
