Take Your Parents to the Farm Day [Jul. 1st, 2005|01:18 am]

Yeah, a twist on Take Your Daughter to Work Day, i had to bring my folks to my "daughter", heh. Ravynesque is doing a lot better. She's been on medication for her ulcer since last weekend, and she'll remain isolated in the round pen at least until her treatment is completed. So as to not stress her unnecessarily by putting her back with the rest of the babies. i am going up there just about every day to give her at least one feeding and clean out the pen ("farm chores are hard!" in whiny talking Barbie doll voice).

We came up on Tuesday night for evening feed, which is a funny thing to see indeed. The horses know when it's dinnertime, and you've never seen a more hopeful look on a face as when someone walks by the babies carrying a bucket (oh yeah, they know where their food comes from, LOL).

Here i introduce my dad to Ravynesque. This shot shows how tall she is in relation to us. The top rail of the round pen is about five feet high. Yes, i'm a bit taller than my dad. Ravyn is in dinnertime mode, looking for her food. We were armed with a bag of baby carrots...

Ravynesque excels in what i call "speed eating", which is the art of inhaling your treats so you can grab your fieldmates' treats too. That makes her a bit tricky to feed, as she's pretty eager to grab that baby carrot from your hand. But she didn't get my dad's fingers (this time) :-D

My mom also took a couple of photos of me and my baby. Which is much easier than when i try to do it myself, heh. Of course, Ravyn is eating hay, and not really interested in posing with her "mom"....

My mom got the biggest kick out of the horses. She had lots of fun giving Ravyn carrot treats and the occasional pat on the muzzle.

Incredibly, there were some carrots left for the rest of the babies, heh. So my mom went to the gate and tried to distribute them "fairly". i think each baby got at least one baby carrot, LOL, but beyond that it was hard to say. (oh and i thought their glowing eyes looked too cool to fix, heh)

Last photo, for now. My mom was tickled over Wendy's chickens, and had to get a photo of them....
